How Systems Can Make or Break your 2025 Goals
As you prepare for a fresh new year, setting meaningful goals can feel overwhelming—especially if you’ve struggled to make progress in the past.
The secret isn’t about trying harder—it’s about uncovering systems that may be in place that are hold you back and creating systems that support your success.
In last night’s final goal-setting series livestream, our Founder and CEO, Sierra Friend, shared powerful insights on how creating intentional systems can transform your goal-setting journey—turning overwhelming ambitions into actionable steps that align with your values and lifestyle.

What are Systems?
While from the outside systems are intentional processes and structures that help you accomplish tasks and reach your goals, there's also another side of systems that often gets overlooked. Systems are also the structures, routines, beliefs, or environments we operate within (e.g., workplaces, family dynamics, cultural norms, societal expectations).
The Impact of Systems on Goals
With the definition of what systems actually are in mind, Sierra showed us how systems can be both empowering (provide tools, support, encouragement) and disempowering (create obstacles, guilt, or overwhelm).
An example of an empowering system include a partner who encourages self-care and a workplace that values creativity over outfit. Whereas disempowering systems might be hustle culture, unrealistic beauty standards and rigid parenting expectations.
Can you pinpoint a system that is empowering and a system that is disempowering in your life?
Change is hard
Dismantling and changing systems that aren't serving us is hard work, Friend. It disrupts familiar patterns, even when those patterns aren’t serving us.
The brain resists change because it craves efficiency and comfort, often defaulting to old habits.
However, by creating intentional systems—both external (like tools and environments) and internal (like mindset shifts and self-awareness)—we can make change feel less overwhelming.
These systems reduce the mental load of decision-making and create structure that supports sustainable progress, making change not only possible but empowering.
How the MäksēLife System Supports Change
The MäksēLife system is designed to bring supportive systems into your life in a way that feels natural and empowering.
With goal-setting prep work, reflection built in to every week and month, and regular check-ins, it offers both structure and space for personal growth. You’re never navigating your goals alone—you have a built-in process to help you adapt, reflect, and grow all year long!
During the livestream, Darian opened up about how using the MäksēLife system has transformed her approach to change. She shared how setting up small, consistent systems helped her feel less overwhelmed and more capable of making progress.
Instead of chasing perfection, she focused on small, meaningful steps—and that’s where real change happened. Tools like weekly reflections and monthly goal check-ins kept her motivated while allowing her to adjust her plans with compassion and flexibility.
Her journey shows how the MäksēLife system blends structure with emotional support, making personal growth achievable—even when life gets messy.
What progress could you see in 2025 if you adapt your systems to support your growth and goals?
